As a lot of people have been saying for a fairly long time now, government finances are really getting to be in bad shape.
It seems to me that both parties know it is just a matter of time before the creditor nation's central bankers decide that US debt isn't worth the risk at the interest rates we're offering.
But hey, this brings up an interesting point -- will the two parties at some point start playing a game of Hot Potato, with the object of not being the ones in power when it comes time to default on a debt payment?
It's kind of fun to imagine the two parties racing to the bottom, trying to put up a bigger loser candidate for Pres, since that's the office that would take the most heat. Try not to win, we don't want to be in charge when the SHTF.
Then I think about John Kerry, and the race to the bottom with George W. Bush, and it makes me sad.

You know, that explains a whole lot about the present situation, doesn't it?
In the end, though, but parties will probably be in the trash.
Remember, though, that it was in such an atmosphere of economic collapse that the obscure National Socialist Democratic Worker's Party rose to prominence in Germany during the 30s.
